Day 5: Rio de Janeiro – Salvador

Salvador is the capital of the Brazilian state. Declared cultural heritage and known as "Terra de Todos os Santos." Salvador is the cradle of Afro-Brazilian culture, the result of the cultural mixing of colonization and European evangelization, African traditions and beliefs that slaves brought and some traditions left by the few Indians who survived. We will go on a walking tour of Salvador’s historic downtown: the famous Pelourinho, which is the largest collection of colonial buildings in Latin America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will walk the streets with their colonial cobbled pavements surrounded by houses in pastel colours. Then we visit the exuberant São Francisco Church, the Cathedral, where we will see the imposing baroque tropical progression with its first trends of Rococo refinement. We continue to the Praça Municipal where we will be above the Cidade Baixa, with wonderful views of the Baía de Todos los Santos.

Night at 3/4* Bahiacafé Hotel | Standard Room with breakfast.

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro – Sugarloaf & City Tour

Today we will explore Rio de Janeiro's other landmark: Sugarloaf peak, along with some key city highlights. We will begin by taking a panoramic city tour, past Maracana - the world's most popular soccer stadium - and the Sambadrome - an area specially built for the parade of samba schools that parade every year during Carnival. Next, we will pass by the financial centre of Rio where modern and colonial styles are mixed and we will make a short stop to visit the famous Cathedral of San Sebastian. Finally, we will continue to the Sugarloaf lookout, which offers amazing views of the city of Rio de Janeiro. We will travel up and down the Pão de Açúcar on the traditional cable railway.

Night at 3/4* Windsor Palace Hotel | Standard Room with breakfast.

Day 6: Salvador – Salvador’s Lower City

Today we begin our day by exploring Lower City Salvador. The Lower City tour offers another perspective of the sprawling city, passing the Tororo Lagoon with the imposing statues of the candomblé orixas in mid-lake, and the towering Arena Fonte Nova football stadium built for the World Cup. From here we drive to the quiet waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where life moves at a slower pace than the bustling upper city.

Fishermen fish from dug-out canoes, locals collect shellfish at low tide, and schooners lie at anchor, all protected by the famous Bonfim church, one of the most important churches of pilgrimage in Brazil and deeply syncretised with the Candomblé. We stop en route at the iconic Sorveteria da Ribeira ice cream parlour offering a myriad of tropical fruit sorbets since 1931. We continue to the Monserrat district with its panoramic view of the bay and city beyond and on to the Mercado Modelo, a thriving market for local artefacts and souvenirs.

The total length of the runway is 1200 meters from which you get a spectacular panoramic view of the 275 waterfalls that make up the Iguaçu Falls; the most important on the Brazilian side are four: Floriano, Deodoro da Fonseca, Benjamin Constant and Salto União or the Devil's Throat.
